Postdoctoral Fellow

Predrag (Pedja) obtained his B.Sc. in Molecular Biology and Physiology at the University of Belgrade, Serbia before moving to Canada to pursue his Ph.D. with Dr. Ivan Topisirovic and Dr. Josie Ursini-Siegel. His doctoral work focused on how tumours spread to distant organs in a process called metastasis. During his Ph.D, Pedja uncovered novel mechanisms through which cancer cells rapidly reprogram their mRNA translation and redox metabolism in the face of unfavourable conditions in order to survive and maintain aberrant growth and dissemination. Having developed an interest in molecular mechanisms of cellular adaptation to stress, he joined the team of Dr. Heidi McBride to study how mitochondria sense and adapt to stress in multiple physiological and disease contexts.
